Join us for our opening night of this year’s festival with glorious music from two extraordinary French composers, Camille Saint Saëns and the lesser known but absolutely wonderful, Jean Francaix.

In the first half, amidst other beautiful works for solo piano and violin, Ellie and Tom will be joined by enSEmble26 favourite,  Hannah Sloane,  to perform Francaix’s String Trio. It is an early work, from 1933 and has an element of joy and lightness running through it. Francaix was busy writing music for three ballets in the same year and his strong feeling for dance and rhythm run throughout this delightful piece.

After the interval, all the forces will join together for another bright, inspiring and beautiful chamber work by the prolific composer Camille Saint Saëns. This Quartet in Bflat , Op. 41, also known as the Piano Quartet No. 2, was written in February 1875 has been called one of Saint-Saëns' neglected masterpieces and is full of beatiful tunes, virtuosic playing and rumbunctious fun! It’s going to be a really beautiful concert!
