About the event

Join enSEmble26 as we celebrate Ralph Vaughan Williams 150th birthday by performing some of his most popular works, alongside lesser known, brand new and re-discovered pieces of music. There will be an art exhibition at the back of the church for the Friday and Saturday concerts dieplaying the beautiful pieces by the acclaimed young artist, print maker and glass artist  Sophie Layton and a Q and A about her work.

On Friday 23rd  evening, 7.30pm at St Bartholomew's Church our opening night will include one of the most popular pieces of all time, The Lark Ascending and the heart breakingly beautiful On Wenlock Edge sung by one of our favourite young tenors, Alex Aldren. Joined by the wonderful Michelle Bruil on viola and Naomi Watts on cello, we will also be playing a wonderful  string quartet by the celebrated young British composer, Joseph Phibbs.

On Saturday 24th, at 12pm there will be a concert welcoming those with SEN/D and Dementia with a short programme of fun and popular pieces for violin and piano.

Our second main concert of the weekend stays at St Bartholomew's church at 4.30pm and will feature a lesser known work by Vaughan Williams, the Quintet for Piano Trio, Horn and Clarinet and some extraordinarily evocative music by a contemporary of Vaughan Williams, British/American composer Rebecca Clarke. enSEmble26 are thrilled to be joined by three outstanding musicians for this concert - Sacha Rattle on clarinet and James Pillai on French Horn and Kath Jenkinson on cello.

Our Sunday Morning concert is at 11am at Sydenham High School and we are absolutely thrilled that the wonderful Eleanor Meynell will be joined by the acclaimed Baritone, Lawrence White for a beautiful recital of English Song.

Sunday Afternoon at 3pm is one for the children and the grandchildren with our original and captivating children’s concert "The Swan and the Enchanted Lake" exploring the themes of nature, destruction, magic and music. The original story is paired with some of the most beautful works for piano trio and narrated by Susie Riddell from the Archers and is bound to fire up all imaginations.

To finish, enSemble26 will be joined at the wonderful and enterprising Ignition Brewery on Sydenham High St, for an evening of music with Armenian/English/ Eclectic Folk and electronic composer and artisit  Cevanne Horrocks Hopayain. There will be some collaborations with string quartet and some folk music from around the world. Those who have experienced Cevanne before will definitely want to grab a ticket for this one so book early to make sure you don't miss out!

We are going to be joined by some of the most outstanding chamber and orchestral musicians in the UK for this  knockout musical celebration not to be missed.

This pass entitles you to access to all the events over the weekend. Please inform us if you are planning to come to Ignition Brewery or the Children's concert as there are limited numbers and please still book your children's tickets.
