About the event
On Friday 23rd September, 7.30pm at St Bartholomew's Church our opening night will include one of the most popular pieces of all time, Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending and the heart breakingly beautiful On Wenlock Edge sung by one of our favourite young tenors, Alex Aldren. Joined by the wonderful Michelle Bruil on viola and Naomi Watts on cello, we will also be playing an exciting new string quartet by the celebrated young composer, Joseph Phibbs.
On Saturday 24th, at 12pm there will be a concert welcoming those with Dementia and their carers with a short programme of fun and popular pieces for violin and piano. All are welcome to this relaxed and joyful performance.
Our second main concert of the weekend stays at St Bartholomew's church at 4.30pm and will feature a lesser known work by Vaughan Williams, the Quintet for Piano Trio, Horn and Clarinet and some extraordinarily evocative music by a contemporary of Vaughan Williams, Rebecca Clarke. enSEmble26 are thrilled to be joined by three outstanding musicians for this concert - Sacha Rattle on clarinet, James Pillai on French Horn and Kath Jenkinson on cello.
Sunday 25th at 3pm is one for the children and the grandchildren with our original and captivating children’s concert "The Swan and the Enchanted Lake" exploring the themes of nature, destruction, magic and music. The original story is paired with some of the most beautful works for piano trio and narrated by Susie Riddell from the Archers and is bound to fire up all imaginations.
To finish, on Sunday 25th at 7pm enSemble26 will be joined at the wonderful and enterprising Ignition Brewery on Sydenham High St, for an evening of music with composer, performer and multi-media artist Cevanne Horrocks Hopayian. There will be collaborations with string quartet and some folk music from around the world. Those who have experienced Cevanne before will definitely want to grab a ticket for this one so book early to make sure you don't miss out!
Tickets are available for each event with a 'pay what you can option' or, for great value, purchase a festival pass which will allows access to all the concerts over the weekend.
We are going to be joined by some of the most outstanding chamber and orchestral musicians in the UK for this knockout musical celebration not to be missed.
