About the event
To finish our festival, enSemble26 will be joined at the wonderful and enterprising Ignition Brewery on Sydenham High St, for an evening of music.
Cevanne and Ensemble26 promise to lift the lid on forgotten folklore, and shine a light on what may lurk in an English country garden. With voice, strings, harp and electronics, prepare to meet Lovely Joan, a Scottish kelpie, and the Armenian 'nightingale of a thousand songs’. Along with traditional repertoire, Cevanne brings new tunes from her EP, and book, ‘Rites For Crossing Water’ — a set of folk rituals for the future. There will also be some Danish folk tunes and some Purcell.
With a nod to Fantasia on Greensleeves, by Ralph Vaughan-Williams, this programme juxtaposes his beautiful arrangement of traditional folk songs with exhilarating new settings that expose the twisted tales held in their lyrics.
